Welcome to the Sustainable Built Environment Society (SBES)

Welcome to the Sustainable Built Environment Society (SBES), a global and interdisciplinary platform committed to transforming the way built environments are designed, constructed, managed, and regenerated. Grounded in the principles of environmental responsibility, economic viability, and social equity, SBES brings together engineers, architects, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to advance a greener and more resilient future for infrastructure and construction worldwide. The society is led by James Olabode Bamidele Rotimi, Professor in the School of Built Environment at Massey University, whose international expertise and academic leadership guide SBES’s strategic direction and global collaborations.

At SBES, we promote knowledge-driven innovation and collaborative action in sustainable construction, urban development, and resource-efficient building management. Our initiatives span cutting-edge research funding, training programs, green certification systems, and real-world project implementation. Whether it’s enabling net-zero energy buildings, developing bio-based construction materials, or influencing urban sustainability policies, SBES acts as a catalyst for impact and excellence across sectors.

With a strong emphasis on education, SBES also nurtures the next generation of sustainability leaders through scholarships, fellowships, and international competitions. We actively engage with governments, academic institutions, NGOs, and private enterprises to drive sustainable transformation at both grassroots and global scales. Join us in reimagining infrastructure not just as physical structures—but as ecosystems that harmonize with the environment, empower communities, and endure across generations.
