Policies and Ethical Standards
Policies and Ethical Standards:
At the Centre for Continental Network in Eco-Innovation and Research (CCNEIR), we are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, research ethics, and transparency in all our initiatives. Our policies reflect our responsibility to foster credible scholarship, ensure compliance with international norms, and provide fair processes for all contributors.
1. Academic Integrity
1.1 Core Commitment
CCNEIR promotes a culture of intellectual honesty and academic responsibility. All contributors, whether authors, reviewers, editors, or partners, are expected to demonstrate:
- Honesty in research methodology, data collection, and interpretation
- Acknowledgement of all sources and collaborators
- Transparent communication of limitations and errors
- Professional conduct in all academic and publishing interactions
1.2 Ethical Research Standards
Researchers affiliated with CCNEIR or publishing in our journals must ensure:
- Ethical approval for studies involving human subjects, animals, or sensitive data
- Proper documentation of experimental protocols and informed consent
- Disclosure of funding sources and institutional affiliations
- Any breach of academic integrity will be formally investigated and may result in retraction, disqualification, or institutional notification.
2. Publishing Ethics and COPE Compliance
2.1 Adoption of COPE Core Practices
CCNEIR and its associated journals adhere to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards. We are aligned with the following COPE guidelines:
- Transparent editorial processes and ethical decision-making
- Double-blind or open peer review with appropriate reviewer conduct
- Confidential handling of submitted materials
- Editorial independence and protection from commercial bias
2.2 Editorial Responsibilities
Editors-in-chief, associate editors, and board members are expected to:
- Uphold confidentiality of manuscripts
- Avoid conflicts of interest
- Provide clear rationale for editorial decisions
- Facilitate fair appeal and correction mechanisms
2.3 Reviewer Conduct
Peer reviewers should:
- Provide unbiased, constructive, and timely feedback
- Refrain from using unpublished data for personal research
- Declare any conflicts of interest
3. Plagiarism and Original Work
3.1 Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, data, or visuals without attribution
- Reproducing another’s ideas or research structure without acknowledgment
- Submitting previously published work as original (self-plagiarism)
3.2 Detection and Consequences
All submissions are screened using automated plagiarism detection tools (e.g., iThenticate). If plagiarism is confirmed:
- The manuscript is immediately rejected or retracted (if published)
- Authors are formally notified and banned from submission for a period of time
- Institutional heads may be informed in serious cases
- Authors are encouraged to cite sources appropriately and to submit only original and unpublished work.
4. Research Misconduct and Manipulations
CCNEIR maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of research and publication misconduct. Prohibited actions include:
- Data Fabrication: Making up or altering research data
- Data Falsification: Manipulating data points, visuals, or images
- Peer Review Manipulation: Suggesting fake reviewers or using fabricated identities
- Gift or Ghost Authorship: Including non-contributors as authors or omitting actual contributors
- Citation Manipulation: Unjustified self-citation or coercive referencing for citation boosting
- Any confirmed case of misconduct will result in rejection, blacklisting, and may be reported to the author’s institution or funding agency.
5. Legal Compliance and Copyright Policy
5.1 Copyright and Licensing
CCNEIR supports open-access dissemination of research under globally recognized licenses. Most of our journals publish under Creative Commons (CC BY) licenses. Authors retain copyright but grant us a non-exclusive license to publish.
Authors must ensure:
- Permission for use of third-party copyrighted content
- Disclosure of licensed material and media
- Accurate declarations of data ownership
5.2 Intellectual Property Protection
All content published through CCNEIR channels is protected under applicable national and international copyright laws. Unauthorized reproduction, reuse, or misrepresentation of our content will be subject to legal action.
6. Conflict of Interest Policy
A conflict of interest (COI) exists when authors, reviewers, or editors have financial, personal, or professional relationships that could influence their judgment.
All stakeholders must:
- Disclose grants, consultancy fees, affiliations, or intellectual property interests
- Refrain from participating in decisions where a COI exists
- Include COI statements in published manuscripts
- Non-disclosure of known conflicts may lead to rejection, retraction, or suspension.
7. Complaints and Appeals Process
7.1 Submitting Complaints
CCNEIR has an Ethics Oversight Team that investigates all complaints regarding:
- Ethical misconduct
- Editorial or review process concerns
- Retraction or authorship disputes
- Complaints must be submitted via our official grievance email with complete documentation. Anonymous or unsubstantiated complaints may not be processed.
7.2 Appeals Process
Authors may appeal decisions (e.g., rejection, correction notice) by submitting a formal appeal within 30 days. Appeals are reviewed independently by a senior editorial committee.
7.3 Resolution Timeline
We aim to resolve all ethical complaints and appeals within 30 business days, with transparency and documentation throughout.
8. Retraction, Correction, and Withdrawal Policy
We follow COPE’s guidelines on managing post-publication issues:
- Corrections: For minor errors not affecting conclusions
- Retractions: For significant flaws, misconduct, or ethical violations
- Withdrawals: Permitted before publication if justified
- All post-publication notices are permanently indexed and linked to the original content.
9. Data Transparency and Open Science
CCNEIR encourages:
- Sharing of datasets, source code, and materials through open repositories (e.g., Zenodo, OSF)
- Inclusion of data availability statements in submissions
- Adoption of FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
- Where applicable, journals will implement data citation and open peer review mechanisms.
